Why Safety Briefings Are Crucial — And Why We Never Skip Them

It's tempting to see the safety briefing as the thing standing between you and the field. In reality, it's the reason everyone gets to walk off the field the same way they walked on. Every group that plays at Legends — first-timers and regulars alike — sits through one before the first game, no exceptions.

What's Covered

The briefing is short, but it covers everything that keeps a session safe:

• Mask and eye protection rules — on at all times on an active field, no exceptions.
• How to call your hits honestly — the entire game only works if everyone plays fair.
• Minimum engagement distance — how close you can safely fire on an opponent.
• How to handle your marker or rifle — safe directions, safety catches, and what to do between games.
• What to do if gear fails mid-game — stop, raise your hand, and let the marshal know immediately.

Why It Actually Matters

Paintball markers and airsoft rifles are not toys — they're equipment capable of causing real injury if handled carelessly, especially around the eyes and face. A five-minute briefing is what turns a field full of strangers holding equipment they've likely never used before into a group that knows exactly how to play safely together.

Why Regulars Don't Skip It Either

It would be easy to wave regular players straight onto the field — they know the rules already. We don't, for one simple reason: complacency is where accidents happen. A quick refresher costs nothing and keeps everyone, including the most experienced players, playing to the same standard every single time.

The Marshal's Role

The briefing isn't a formality your marshal reads off a script and forgets. It's backed up for the entire session — marshals enforce mask rules without exception, call hits fairly, and have the authority to pause or stop a game the moment something looks unsafe. The briefing sets the standard; the marshal holds everyone to it.
