What Is Airsoft?
Airsoft is a tactical team combat game played with realistic replica rifles that fire small round plastic BBs instead of paint. Rather than just eliminating the other team, most rounds are mission-based — capture an objective, hold a position, extract a VIP. It's built for players who want strategy and immersion, not just a shootout.
At Legends, our Tactical Airsoft sessions run at Mooikloof, with marshals directing multiple rounds across different field layouts so every game feels different from the last.

What Are BBs?
BBs are the ammunition airsoft rifles fire — small, round plastic pellets, usually 6mm across, launched by a burst of air rather than a chemical charge. Unlike a paintball, a BB doesn't break or leave a mark, which is exactly why honest hit-calling matters so much in airsoft.
They're light enough that a solid hit stings for a moment and then it's gone — nothing close to a bruise — and with full protective gear on, you barely notice it at all. All BBs used at Legends are biodegradable, so there's no clean-up left behind on the field once a round ends.
Airsoft vs Paintball
The biggest difference is the hit. Paintballs burst and mark you, so a hit is impossible to argue. Airsoft BBs don't leave paint behind, which is why honest hit-calling is one of the first things your marshal covers in the briefing — you call your own hits, no exceptions.
The replica rifles also look and handle far closer to the real thing, and games lean more tactical — cover, objectives, and communication matter more than raw speed. If paintball is fast and chaotic, airsoft is slower, sharper, and more deliberate.
The Gear We Provide
Every session is fully kitted out, so you don't need to own or bring any of your own equipment:
- Full-face protective mask and neck guard
- Overalls worn over your own clothes
- Replica airsoft rifle
- Ammunition (BBs) for the session
All you need to bring is closed shoes and clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty.
How a Session Plays Out
Your marshal opens with a safety and rules brief — how to handle the rifle, how to call your hits honestly, and the objective for each round. From there, you'll play multiple tactical rounds across different field layouts: capture the objective, eliminate the opposition, hold your position. Whether you've played before or this is your first time on a field, you'll be ready within minutes.
Who It's For
Tactical Airsoft is open to players 13 and up, with no upper age limit — we've had first-timers and veterans play side by side in the same session. It's a favourite for teen birthday parties, bachelor parties, and corporate groups who've already done paintball and want something more immersive. No experience is necessary; the marshals handle the rest.
